Hello, my friends!
My name is Matthew Allan Olson, and I am a writer, columnist, world-building enthusiast, and unpublished (but) aspiring fantasy author hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
What is this place?
This site has been created to share my journey as a creative with curious readers and emerging creatives alike. My subjects of research are in story-telling, history, creative writing, and world-building, … interwoven with vast areas of nerdery, social interest, and odd humor.
I hope to reach out to as many fellow readers and writers as possible, and bring them on an adventure of sorts. I promise to provide unique and valuable content, experiences and discoveries as I travel along this winding path through my emerging career.
Why do you write?
A spirit overtook me from a young age; a duende of sorts, that inspired me to take those overwhelming forces of energy I was feeling, and commit that chaos to art. In that time, I wrote passionately about worlds beyond the one we live in, telling stories of grand characters entangled in the turbulence of their environment. The term “chaotica” spawned from that time, and it described the ever aching curiosity, wanderlust, and anxiety that I became so familiar with in those years.
We have a habit of burying those spirits beneath the waves as we grow older. Yet, in my controlled, but ever-changing adulthood, I feel the need to continue giving that spirit a voice.
A word about my name:
Believe it or not, I am ambivalent about my birth name. Being a caucasian male from the upper-midwest, it’s incredibly common. I do not plan to publish long-term under it. With that said, my long-term pseudonym as a writer is yet to be decided. Of course, I refuse to let this stop me from writing to my hearts content.
Part of the reason why I’ve been satisfied sticking with “ChaoticanWriter” as an interweb alias of sorts.
For an about me page, this seem to be a healthy amount to begin with.
What you will find in on this website are various articles and resources geared towards genre fiction readers, writers, table-top and board gamers, nerd convention goers, and others.
If there is anything else you wish to know, I’m a very open book!
